Day 1: Ouarzazate to M'hamid via the Draa Valley and Tamegroute
Your journey begins at 9:00 AM with a private 4x4 pickup from your accommodation in Ouarzazate. Wind through the dramatic peaks of the Anti-Atlas Mountains via the Tiz-n-Tinfift Pass (1700m) down to Agdz, the headwaters of the iconic Draa River.
Leaving the main highway, we take the ancient trans-Saharan caravan route to explore the historic Kasbah of Oulad Othman over a traditional tea break. Following a local lunch in Zagora, we venture to Tamegroute to witness the ancestral craft of green-glazed pottery making.
Arriving in Mhamid—the gateway where the paved highway ends—you will embark on a two-hour sunset camel trek into the Erg Lihoudi dunes. Conclude your evening with a gourmet Saharan dinner and sleep under the stars in a traditional Berber tent camp.
Day 2: Mhamid to Erg Chigaga Dunes — Deep Sahara Off-Road Adventure
Wake early to witness a breathtaking Saharan sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, return to Mhamid by camel to explore the beautifully preserved, fortified earthen architecture of the Old Kasbah of M'hamid. Enjoy an authentic, home-cooked Moroccan Couscous lunch inside a local family home.
In the afternoon, the true off-road adventure begins. Your private 4x4 tackles 60 kilometers of rugged desert terrain, crossing varying landscapes of sand dunes (Erg), stone deserts (Reg), and barren rock plateaus (Hammada).
Reach the massive Erg Chigaga dunes in the late afternoon. Spend your free time climbing the towering crests, sandboarding down the slopes, or relaxing in the deep tranquility of the Sahara. After dinner, immerse yourself in traditional nomadic songs and drumming around the campfire.
Day 3: Erg Chigaga Dunes to Ouarzazate via Lake Iriqui, Foum Zguid and Taznakht
Capture the changing colors of the great dunes during a peaceful desert sunrise. Following breakfast, your expedition heads west across 100 kilometers of untamed desert tracks.
Drive across the flat, cracked mud crust of Lake Iriqui, a massive dry lake bed that once fed the Draa River. Next, explore Lmadwar Mountain, an striking volcanic formation rich in ancient marine fossils.
Reaching the desert outpost of Foum Zguid for lunch, we transition back to paved roads and journey to Taznakht, the historic heart of indigenous Amazigh (Berber) rug and carpet weaving. Your private tour concludes with an early evening drop-off at your hotel or airport in Ouarzazate.

Practical information
- Footwear: Choose shoes or sandals. Walking shoes are unnecessary in the desert; lighter footwear is preferable. If selecting sandals, pack socks as nighttime temperatures drop.
- Clothing: Light attire for the day and warmer garments for the evening, including rain protection. In March, temperatures range from 10°C at night to 26°C during the day.
- Sun protection: Suncream and sunglasses.
- First aid: Include adhesive plasters, dressings, sterile compresses, disinfectant, paracetamol or aspirin tablets/sachets, antidiarrheal medication, eye drops, and blister dressings.
