Desert tour from Ouarzazate by 4x4 3 days - Itinerary:

Program 3 days

Day 1: From Ouarzazate to Mhamid

Depart from Ouarzazate to Mhamid by 4x4 at 9:00 am. Cross the Anti Atlas Mountain, Tiz-n-Tinfift (1700m) Pass to Agdz, where the longest river in Morocco starts. We take the ancient caravan route, passing many old villages and gardens. A short tea break and visit the old Kasbah of Oulad Othman.

The trip to the desert continues to Zagora, where we will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we drive to Tamegroute, the famous village of the old Potteries factory. Arriving in Mhamid, we take a two-hour camel tour leading to Erg Lihoudi dunes for a stunning sunset from the top of the dunes. We then enjoy a delicious Dinner in the desert camp and a night in a Berber tent or under the stars.

Day 2: From Mhamid to Erg Chegaga dunes

After breakfast, you can watch the sunrise if you wake up early enough. Travel back on the camel to Mhamid, the gate to the Sahara desert. It's the last town before the desert, and the paved road ends there. A time to visit the fortified old kasbah of Mhamid, after we take you to enjoy the traditional Moroccan Couscous for lunch in one of the local houses.

In the afternoon, depart from Mhamid to Erg Chegaga by 4x4, driving 60 km off-road through different features: Erg, Reg, and Hammada. Arrive at the camp in Erg Chegaga. There will be free time to climb the enormous dunes and enjoy an unforgettable sunset and tranquillity from the top of the dunes. After Dinner, traditional nomadic music will be danced around the campfire under the stars.

Day 3: From Mhamid to Erg Chegaga

If you wake up early enough in the morning, you can watch the beautiful sunrise and see how the colour of the dunes changes. After a good breakfast, the desert trip continues from Erg Chegaga camp to Ouarzazate city through another 100 km of off-road driving in the Sahara desert with varying scenery. One of these is Lake Iriqui. It is a vast, dry lake nowadays. It ran out to the Draa River, the longest river in Morocco, long ago.

We continue the trip to Lmadwar's mountain, famous for its volcanic rocks. It is also a great spot to discover more about the desert; if lucky, you can find fossils. We reach the nomadic town, Foum Zguid, at lunchtime. We take the paved road to Taznakht, famous for its Berber rugs and carpets. Arrive in Ouarzazate at the end of the afternoon. Hopefully, you enjoyed the 3-day desert tour with us from Ouarzazate to Erg Chegaga.
