Camel Desert Trip 3 days - Itinerary:
Day 1: From Mhamid to Erg Douib
You will meet your desert guides and camel caravan in Mhamid and start loading the trekking equipment on the Camel. Depart for 3-day trekking by Camel to have an experience unique. You will cross the Draa River, the longest river in Morocco, 1100km before we stop for lunch under the shade of the palms in the Mhamid Oasis. After lunch, the caravan takes the path to spend the night in Erg Douib, the impressive dunes where you enjoy the sunset from the top of the dunes. A musical evening and a delicious dinner around the fire—a night under the stars or tents.
Day 2: Erg Douib to Erg Bertham
If you wake up early enough in the morning, you can watch the sunrise's beautiful scenario and see how the colour of the dunes changes. After Breakfast, Our adventure in the desert takes us towards Bertham for spending another fantastic night in the middle of the Sahara desert. We stop for lunch under a tamarisk tree. The evening will be around the fire and the moment to see and learn how nomads make fresh bread in the desert—night under the stars or tent.
Day 3: From Erg Bertham dunes to Mhamid
After a good breakfast on the dune's surface in Bertham, It will be the third day to head back to Mhamid, passing by Elbour, Elmazoiriya river and Erg Khnata. We will stop for lunch in the midway. In the afternoon, We arrive at Mhamid. - Tips
- A travel backpack: Opt for backpacks or soft bags without frames. Avoid hard bags that could injure camels.
- A small backpack: Essential for items you need immediate access to during the day, as bags carried by camels are less accessible.
- Footwear: Choose shoes or sandals. Walking shoes are unnecessary in the desert; lighter footwear is preferable. If selecting sandals, pack socks as nighttime temperatures drop.
- Clothing: Light attire for the day and warmer garments for the evening, including rain protection. In March, temperatures range from 10°C at night to 26°C during the day.
- Sun protection: Suncream and sunglasses.
- First aid: Include adhesive plasters, dressings, sterile compresses, disinfectant, paracetamol or aspirin tablets/sachets, antidiarrheal medication, eye drops, and blister dressings.
- Flashlight: Preferably a headlamp.
- Water bottle.
- A lighter: Important for burning waste in the desert.
- Small bags: Preferably paper, for daily trash disposal.
- Hermetic bags: Freezer-type bags to protect your camera or phone.
