Program 4 days

day 1 :Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Agdez

Your adventure begins in Marrakech, the vibrant red city and gateway to southern Morocco. Leaving behind the busy streets, you travel across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, where winding roads reveal panoramic views, traditional Berber villages, and dramatic mountain scenery. ­ By the end of the day, you arrive in Agdez, a peaceful oasis town at the beginning of the Draa Valley. Known for its palm groves, kasbahs, and old caravan history, Agdez is one of the most charming stops in southern Morocco. It offers a first taste of the desert atmosphere and the warm hospitality of the south.

day 2: Agdez – Zagora – Tamgrout – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga Desert

After breakfast, continue south through the stunning Draa Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in Morocco, famous for its endless palm groves, ksour, and kasbahs. Your first stop is Zagora, a famous desert town traditionally linked to trans-Saharan trade routes. It is often considered the gateway to the deep desert. Next, visit Tamgrout, a cultural and spiritual village renowned for its ancient religious heritage and traditional green pottery. The journey then continues to Mhamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the great Sahara begins. Here, the paved road ends and the true desert adventure starts. ­ From Mhamid, take the off-road track crossing the desert toward the majestic Erg Chegaga dunes, the largest and wildest dunes in Morocco. Upon arrival, enjoy a memorable camel ride across the golden sands and watch the sunset over the dunes. In the evening, settle into your desert camp for a magical night under the stars. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner followed by a musical evening around the campfire, with local rhythms and Saharan atmosphere. ­ Overnight in desert camp at Erg Chegaga.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Ait Ben Haddou

Wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes, a truly unforgettable desert moment. After breakfast, depart across the desert landscape toward Foum Zguid, passing through rocky plains, dry lake areas, and wide-open Saharan scenery. ­ Then continue by paved road to Taznakht, a town famous throughout Morocco for its rich Berber weaving traditions. Here, you stop to visit a carpet cooperative, where you can discover authentic handmade Berber carpets and learn about local craftsmanship. ­ Later, arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most iconic ksars in Morocco. This spectacular fortified village of earth and clay rises above the landscape like a scene from another time. Visit the kasbah and explore its narrow alleys, towers, and panoramic viewpoints. ­ Overnight in Ait Ben Haddou.

Day 4: Ait Ben Haddou – Ounila Valley – Telouet Kasbah – Marrakech

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Marrakech through the beautiful Ounila Valley, one of the hidden gems of southern Morocco. This route is rich in color, history, and Berber life, with dramatic red landscapes, traditional villages, and old caravan paths. ­ Along the way, pass by the historic salt mine, once an important source of trade in the region, before reaching Telouet Kasbah, a remarkable palace hidden in the mountains. ­ After visiting Telouet, continue through the Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech in the early afternoon, bringing your desert journey to a close.

Practical information
  • Footwear: Choose shoes or sandals. Walking shoes are unnecessary in the desert; lighter footwear is preferable. If selecting sandals, pack socks as nighttime temperatures drop.
  • Clothing: Light attire for the day and warmer garments for the evening, including rain protection. In March, temperatures range from 10°C at night to 26°C during the day.
  • Sun protection: Suncream and sunglasses.
  • First aid: Include adhesive plasters, dressings, sterile compresses, disinfectant, paracetamol or aspirin tablets/sachets, antidiarrheal medication, eye drops, and blister dressings.
